Lampies has been shaping, glassing, designing and sanding surfboards since the early 80s and have made over 11 000 custom surfboards.

It is the customer’s feedback and his experience in the entire board manufacturing process that has set LAMPEEZ SHAPES apart from our competitors.

We are focused on customer orders exclusively; Lampies personally shapes and deals with every order that comes in. Most spray designs and airbrushing is done by him. He specializes in ‘looks-like-wood’ airbrushing.

Lampies’s shaping and designs have always been counter mainstream. Although he does the standard 6’1” performance pro model surfboard like most other shapers, he thrives on the evolution and future designs of surfboards.  There are still so many possibilities, both in design and materials; that is why Lampeez Shapes has been researching and refining various ideas over the years.

Since 2006 we have been doing a ‘greener’ surfboard that is custom hand-shaped out of recycled XPS and EPS foam, glassed with a non-volatile epoxy resin. The end product is lighter, stronger and less toxic to the environment. These boards cost 25% more than regular ‘PU’ boards, but last longer.

When I started shaping my own boards in 1981 there were not a lot shapers around at that time, no ‘how to’ books or internet to browse, so it forced me to figure things out by myself. Learning from your mistakes makes for a long learning curve, but provides you with first-hand invaluable knowledge of why a design works.

My approach has always been to have an open mind, but not to blindly follow the latest trends. Surfing/shaping is constantly evolving and in my humble opinion, it still has a long way to go before it reaches the pinnacle.
